Representative Malinowski Upholds Commitment to Rural Communities in NJ-07

The House of Representatives passed spending legislation last week to uplift our rural communities while tackling the climate crisis. The Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Fiscal Year 2022 appropriations bill contains numerous provisions to help farmers and residents living in New Jersey's 7th Congressional District rural areas.

Representative Malinowski led many initiatives to support his constituents, including:

Rural Development and Infrastructure: $4.695 billion for critical rural development programs, including $907 million for the expansion of rural broadband services to provide economic development opportunities and improved education and healthcare services. It also includes responsible investments for rural areas to access basic utilities.
Hunger and Nutrition Insecurity: $105.792 billion in required mandatory spending for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which will serve more than 45 million people. It also provides $6 billion in discretionary funding for the Women, Infants, and Children program (WIC), which will serve an estimated 6.4 million women, infants, and children.
Critical Infrastructure: $1.45 billion for rural water and waste program loans, and over $716 million in water and waste grants for clean and reliable drinking water systems and sanitary waste disposal systems, which will provide safe drinking water to millions of rural residents.
Conservation Programs: $1.06 billion to help farmers, ranchers, and other private landowners conserve and protect their land. This includes $170 million for flood prevention and watershed rehabilitation projects.
Animal and Plant Health: $1.125 billion, $57 million above the FY2021 enacted level, for the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service to support programs that help control or eradicate plant and animal pests, such as the Spotted Lantern Fly, and diseases that can be crippling to U.S. producers.
"Small family farms are a point of pride in our district, supplying markets and restaurants across our region with the quality produce New Jersey in known for," said Representative Malinowski. "I am proud to have fought for funding that will support our farmers, and the beautiful landscapes and open spaces that drive tourism and our local economy."
